I? Thanks Contact
Campaign was funded and organised by me, Rowenna Davis, a 17 year old girl in
full time education. However, the campaign would not have been possible
without the support of my friends who I cannot thank enough - their
enthusiasm and energy kept me going when I could have given up.
I would particularly
like to thank the members of Envision. Although 'Messengers' is independent of Envision
they were able to offer enthusiasm, help and advice throughout the project. I
am participating in their educational programme - The Young
Envisionaries Award (YEVA) - along with other members of my 6th form. The
skills they helped me to develop through the programme enabled me to
materialise my ideas. YEVA simply creates a non-prescriptive and supportive
framework for young people in schools to take responsibility for tackling
environmental and social issues. 10-15 sixth form students form Greenteams
and devise and implement a huge diversity of creative and inspirational
activities. Each Greenteam is supported in its activities by two
Environmental Youth Educators (EYEs) - dynamic volunteers from the local
community - and the envision team. As part of YEVA, our Greenteam tackled
biodiversity, ethical & healthy food, and a range of other issues.
Melissa Manteghi, one of my best friends, was responsible for designing the
poster. Melissa is also 17 and the posters would not have had half their
impact if they had been designed by anyone else. I also have to thank her for
letting me waffle on endlessly about printing costs, paintbrushes and night
buses. Melissa said "It's not just the government that has to change
things, it's the people as well, after all, the government doesn't force you
to drive to work in the morning. The poster campaign might inspire people in
the smallest way, but this can have a cumulative effect. The world can create
the most wonderful images that I tried to incorporate into the poster. The
contrasting image of the smog on the other side is the second path that
humans can take. I've seen the development of the campaign over the last
year; I've seen it turn from verbal to physical"
I would also like to thank Mr Jenkins, my school geography teacher for
spending so much time that he doesn't have on this website with me. He was
solely responsible for designing the entire Messengers Website that was so
essential for the campaign and I cannot thank him enough.
Kierra Box, another of my closest friends, helped me with a lot of IT work
that I would otherwise know nothing about. I would also like to thank her for
finding practical solutions to my crazy ideas!
Of course, I must say thank you to ALL THE WONDERFUL PEOPLE that came out in
the middle of the night to plaster the capital (especially those that visited
Brixton, Dalston etc.!) without who the posters would never have gone up.

Every man is a piece of the CONTINENT, a part of the main.
If a clod be washed away by the sea, EUROPE is the less,
As well as if a PROMONTORY were,
As well as if a MANOR of thy friend's or of THINE OWN were.
Any man's DEATH diminishes ME, because I am involved in MANKIND.
And therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls:
It tolls for thee."
